Gay Prom Queen

Well I can not believe I am posting again, but I just HAD to get this story out to my fellow rainbow warriors Cool. What a different day and age then when I was in school ya’ll. Enjoy.

LOS ANGELES An openly gay teen has been voted prom queen at his Los Angelesgender roles and popularity. high school in a campaign that began as a stunt but ended up spurring discussion on the campus about

Sergio Garcia said he felt “invincible” when he was crowned queen of the Fairfax High School dance at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Saturday.

Days
before the dance, Garcia told fellow students that he was “not your
typical prom queen candidate. There’s more to me than meets the eye.”

He also promised that he would be wearing a suit on prom night, but “don’t be fooled: Deep down, I am a queen.”

And he made good of that promise Saturday, wearing a gray tuxedo topped off with the prized tiara.

Garcia,
18, said he saw fliers advertising the prom and the election but they
didn’t specify that the queen must be female. He thought the role would
suit him better than prom king.

“I don’t wish to be a girl,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “I just wish to be myself.”

Senior class president
Vanessa Lo said she and other students were initially against the idea
but became convinced he wasn’t just an attention-seeking clown.

“It just goes to show how open-minded our class is,” Lo said.

Unique Payne, 17, said she voted for Garcia because she supported the gay community.

Although
many students were supportive of Garcia’s run, others were upset and
didn’t understand why Garcia chose to run for prom queen.

“I’m not really happy about that,” said 17-year-old Juan Espinoza. “He should’ve run for prom king.”

Fat People With Rainbow Poop

I wasn’t going to post again today but once I saw this, I just had too. If you have really been looking into your blog stats, you know that you can look up how your blog is referred and also search terms that bring people to your blog. This will help bloggers utilize keywords for their posts. So I decided to have a gander at yesterday’s search terms for my little ole blog. I saw the same general stuff I usually see, however, halfway down the page I saw a very strange search term. This is what I saw : fat people with rainbow poop. Seriously? What in God’s name was this person looking for when they typed that in the box? And how in the hell did my blog show up in the results? Hang on a minute, I am going to type in that phrase in Google and see what happens. BRB. Wow! I am on the first page of results with that phrase due to a previous post on dangling cat poop. Who would have thought? I seriously want to meet the person that was searching for fat people with rainbow poop.

The digital closet: online gaming struggles with gay voices

rainbow_stick2.jpgI came across this article on Yahoo Buzz and thought it a good idea to share with you. I never imagined anything like this before, mainly because this type of technology did not exist when I was a kid. However, this article shows just how far companies like Sony and EA Sports will go to keep from being gay friendly. Enjoy:

“Why is the issue of sexual orientation so explosive that the very act of saying the word “gay” or “lesbian” is sometimes against the rules? Bioware found itself on the wrong end of this controversy when a community manager gracelessly began locking threads that discussed the issue, and then claimed that there simply were no gay or lesbian characters in Star Wars. Maybe those words don’t exist in galaxies far, far, away, but the characters often do: Bioware themselves created a game with a character who laid down with another woman as with a man.

Sony was a part of a similar controversy after the words “gay” and “Jew” were edited out of Home, the company’s social online service for PS3 owners. And Microsoft made headlines when the company banned a player who self-identified as a lesbian, claiming any notice of sexual orientation was against the terms of service.

In some ways it’s unfair to take the world of gaming to task for its immature handling of gay and lesbian issues. After all, it’s hard to find a game that takes any kind of relationship seriously. This is an art form that knows how to show two people killing each other nearly perfectly, but seems to turn into a bunch of fifth-graders when dealing with a kiss, much less when that kiss is between two men or two women. It’s clear that something has to give, although companies only seem to pay attention after receiving the wrong kind of attention for their policies.

This is for your own good

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation contacted EA over the Bioware issue, and received an e-mail and phone call from the Vice-President of EA. His defense of the actions is interesting, and it highlights the problem even as it shows how sincere EA is in its efforts to “fix” it.

“Filtering the words ‘gay’ and ‘lesbian’ was clearly a mistake; but one made with the intention of providing a civil atmosphere for players—certainly including gay and lesbian players,” EA wrote. “I hope that you and everyone associated with GLAAD understand that this was a mistake based on a sincere effort to filter hateful language off of our web site, and not to discriminate against anyone in the player community.”

Taking away the very words used to discuss the issue would certainly lead to less discrimination, as it just pretends that gay and lesbian players don’t exist. If we don’t talk about the problem, if we take away the ability to even say the word “gay,” we’ve very efficiently brushed the issued under the carpet. We’ve shoved gay players back into the closet, and installed a door with no key. Does anyone really believe that the word “lesbian” is hate-speech?

What does who you sleep with have to do with your gaming, anyway?

There is a nasty counter-argument that one often sees in this discussion: why not just keep sexual politics out of the world of gaming?

Taking away the very words used to discuss the issue would certainly lead to less discrimination, as it just pretends that gay and lesbian players don’t exist.

“I feel that a lot of ’straight’ people take for granted that everyone around them is also straight. They just assume that everyone feels the same way and enjoys the same things they do,” Flynn De Marco, the Editor in Chief of GayGamer, told Ars. “This is clearly not the case. Being able to identify as gay or lesbian in an online gaming perspective has its positives and negatives. The negatives being obvious in that they face endless harassment. The positives are that maybe you can connect and play with someone else without having to listen to a litany of gay jokes and ‘fag’ insults,” he explained.

“I would prefer to play with people of a like mindset as me, gay or straight. Wouldn’t you?”

There is also the subtle change in context that happens when you censor a word: it risks creating the impression that the very act of being who you are in the game constitutes a threat to the community. The attitude behind the censorship seems to be that gamers who aren’t straight need to sit down and shut up about it, but of course this is for their own protection.

“I think that in one way [gaming companies] are trying to avoid any controversy or use of the words as derogatory,” De Marco noted. “On the other hand I think it shows an extreme short sighted-ness and a bit of ignorance as to who some of their customers or potential customers may be. Accidentally repressing GLBT visibility in forums, even with good intentions, only makes it safer and more acceptable to use hate speech. Visibility is key to equality.”

Does gay and lesbian content need to be disclosed?

With same-sex marriage being a hot-button issue in the US at the moment—and some groups claiming that same-sex marriage could hurt the American family—what would gay and lesbian content do to the rating of a game? We reached out to the Entertainment Software Ratings Board and asked if game ratings differentiated between different kinds of sexual content.

“We’ve encountered the issue of same-sex content before—the boy-boy kiss in Bully being one example—and, as with any sort of suggestive or sexual content, there is always thoughtful discourse as to how best to address it from a ratings perspective,” Eliot Mizrachi of the ESRB told Ars. “While there aren’t any content descriptors that specifically identify same-sex content, our raters are trained to consider these types of elements within the context of the overall game, and to weigh those factors, among others, when deliberating about which rating and content descriptors would be most appropriate.”

We also asked Common Sense Media how they dealt with gay or lesbian content when giving parents guidance on which games and movies are appropriate for their children. “Our philosophy is that all parents are different. We’re here to make you a better parent,” Marisa Connolly, Communications Manager of Common Sense Media told Ars. “We want to provide as much information as we can, just literally saying here is the content. Here is what goes on in the movie, how much, how explicit it is. Here’s how much drinking, those sorts of things.”

The content is noted, but like the ESRB, these issues don’t affect the guidance on the media. “The idea is to be as objective as we can possible be, we say it’s there, but we don’t to my knowledge… if it’s explicit, we would give it the same ratings as heterosexual activities. We do mention it because we do know that everyone parents differently.”

Gaming needs to grow up, in more ways that just this one

“I definitely feel that the LGBT issues are part of the larger issue of gaming’s immature treatment of sex,” De Marco said. “I would also say that this applies to the US in general when it comes to sex. It’s such a huge taboo here, when in other countries they are more worried about things like kids being exposed to violence.”

The problem is that while gaming may treat sexuality as a whole clumsily, non-traditional sexual roles in gaming are treated borderline offensively. “At the same time, the immature treatment of LGBT issues goes way beyond the treatment of straight sex. Many of the ‘gay’ characters seen in games are pure negative stereotype, much like many ethnic depictions,” De Marco claims. “People want to suppress or marginalize what they don’t understand. Gaming reaches many walks of life, to be certain, but I think we all know that many games are taken in by impressionable young people who need to be taught that everyone they meet in the world is not a walking stereotype. It would be great to see the industry start taking some responsibility about the lessons it is teaching young gamers.”

The problem is that we’re so far away from having a reasonable discourse on the subject that the very words used to describe it are being treated as toxic in gaming and in official fora. Online gaming is a social activity where anyone can be anything they want, and people are free to explore new ideas and to meet new people. By limiting or even removing the ability to take part in, much less discuss at all, same sex relationships, we’re putting an artificial barrier on expression and open communication.

If you can’t be yourself in an online game or community, where can you? Gaming should be an escape, a diversion, and a safe place to play. It’s certainly the first two things, but the third is a much harder trick. Simply forcing gay and lesbian gamers into silence, however, isn’t the answer.”  By: Ben Kuchera

The Proud Gay & Kate Gosselin

mother_theresa1.jpgTwo stories for today. First, my baby brother graduated high school on Sunday. Attending his Catholic graduation was a little nerve wracking as I expected the walls to crumble and God to swoop down and throw me straight to hell while still alive. Obviously, this did not happen. It was a beautiful ceremony and I want to share one key moment for me. Other than the pride I felt for my brother of course, this moment stuck out for me and will remain with me forever. The guest speaker was a man who was Mother Theresa’s cardiologist for many years. He spoke of how she taught him many things about the bible and the Lord. The most important to him was the following. I can’t remember word for word so I will para phrase. “There is only one place in the bible where Jesus talks about separating people. In Matthew, it states, when you get to the gates of heaven, Jesus will ask you, did you feed me when I was hungry? Did you clothe me when I was naked? Did you give me shelter when I was homeless? If you did these things, then you may enter into Heaven.”  This is very important to me, especially as a homosexual. Jesus did not say, how many gays did you spit on, kill, mame, ignore, judge, mistreat, etc? Mother Theresa also told her doctor, the worst disease of all is to feel unwanted. She told him to NEVER be responsible for bringing on that disease to another human being. Now, she also said God makes no mistakes. If it is here, God intended it to be. So, all of you right wing, gay bashing, bible thumping, ostacizing hypocrites better wake up and be prepared to answer the Lord as to why you became judge and jury and questioned the people he made.

Ok, now for Kate Gosselin. I watched the season premiere last night of Jon & Kate plus 8, I have to say, I have a new found respect for Kate Gosselin. She has admitted how tough she has been on Jon over the last 10 years and she states clearly she wants to make this work. Jon on the other hand, whom I have always felt bad for, has turned into something very different. This season will be very interesting. I will say however, it is tough to watch this show with the two of them basically living apart. As for the tabloids, wow. What a bunch of lying, canniving, inhuman pieces of trash. Ok, I am done.

LambertGate: Homophobic Idol

americanidolgrandfinale2009pressroom4n8aml_orbms.jpgSo I seem to be focusing heavily on this Adam Lambert issue. As all the straight people will wail, “it’s only because he’s gay that you wanted him to win and you are upset,” I will continue to say otherwise. In essence I could return that same comment to the Kris Allen voters then. You only wanted him to win because he is straight. Stupid comment right? Well, when you get down to the nitty gritty of it all, it’s not as stupid as we might think. Hence the name LambertGate! I’m so clever. When I found out that Danny Goeke’s pastor was reigning in the Danny votes for Kris because he is a “believer,” I knew Idol had become just as politico as everything else.

Obviously 19 Entertainment is not at all prepared to have a gay man as an American Idol. Seeing as they classify themselves as a family show, yet Simon can say some of the most hateful and hurtful things ever right to these people’s faces, being gay is a no go. Idol is officially classified as homophobic now. No one will ever convince me that Kris Allen got the winning number of votes. No way. No how.  If Adam was not gay, I would still be furious. I juat have a motive now to base my suspicions on that Idol too is fixed. It was a sad day for me because I have been a devoted Idol fan since the beginning. I did not think Clay Aiken should have won, so please do not tell me I only root for the gays.  I root for the talent. Period. Adam Lambert is the talent.

Lambert Lost: What a Joke

I do not even think I have words to describe the anger. If this does not constitute one uttering the phrase, “FIXED!” I don’t know what does. While I think Kris Allen is talented, there is absolutely NO WAY he should have won this competition. Adam Lambert losing American Idol is like Obama losing the presidential election. It was clear cut. But of course, and there is always a but, AI had to keep the show alive. They had to keep people enthralled for next season that anything can happen. Even Kris Allen himself stated, “Adam deserves this.” Talk about PRODUCED. Well you all have my big, fat, gay, Adam Lambert supporting voice refusing to ever watch American Idol again. I have said this in another post, Lambert is by far the most talented individual to ever walk the AI stage. I say this, ya’ll just watch this boy become a friggin’ superstar. Carrie Underwood made a little over 14 million last year. Lambert will be a phenom like no other and double that money guaranteed.

And I will state one more time. IT”S NOT BECAUSE HE IS GAY! One last note, excellent finale they put on this season especially Queen and Rod Stewart.

Peace

Adam Lambert: A Big Fat Snake?

images.jpegYou all know that I revert back to the “it’s because I am gay” analogy as a general joke. I mean, it’s pretty funny when you input it into EVERY conversation. However, this time, I feel I am right. I came across the following blog posting and am just appalled at the sheer devaluation of Adam Lambert’s talents. I believe this person to have such issue due to the thought that Adam Lambert is gay. You be the judge. Word for word:

Someone gave me a great analogy of American Idol 8 that pretty much sums up how this season of Idol has turned out for me.

Last season I enjoyed American Idol 7 because the contestants were pretty much equal which made the show fun to watch, but somehow this season started to get boring about two thirds of the way and here is why. American Idol has turn into a something different when Adam Lambert was included into the show. A friend had also stopped watching the show and she explained to me why in a great analogy.

She said that when the show put in Adam Lambert, who she believes has vast amount of experience compared to the other singers, that it was like putting a Big Snake into a large glass enclosure with 12 Guinea Pigs and watching the progression for several weeks.

Every week the 12 Guinea Pigs would race around trying to figure out how to survive another week while the Big Snake would polish them off every week. One by one, one Guinea Pig would be gobbled up by the Big Snake and the sadistic viewers of the show would cheer the demise of the weekly swallowed up Guinea Pig. But not all viewers, some viewers instead picked certain Guinea Pigs feeling a fondest towards them and hoped the Big Snake would not gobble their favorite that week, but it was inevitable. But the majority of the viewers loved the Big Snake, because the Big Snake had been honed to be a great killer and could easily pick off the simple boring Guinea Pigs.

Week after week as Guinea Pigs were swallowed up by the Big Snake to the glee of some sadistic viewers, a few of the smarter Guinea Pigs managed to survive, but those that didn’t were eaten up alive. After all these weeks the Big Snake has grown really fat from eating up all the Guinea Pigs except one.

Now we are at the end of American Idol season 8 and the wiliest of Guinea Pigs has survived, but in reality the only winner at the end is going to be one big FAT Snake.

I might watch the finale of American Idol season 8, but I probably will not because I am not a sadistic person. Somehow I don’t want to watch as the Big Fat Snake gobbles up the last surviving Guinea Pig Live on TV .”   LeMar Jackson-RANT

I Don’t Wear Flannel & Andy’s Balls

roddick-large-3.jpgThe stereotype is the same, lezzies wear flannel. Well. I have news for some of you people. I do not have a mullet nor do I wear flannel EVER. Not since 1993 anyways. I mean, really now. Flannel is so yesterday. Did you all just like my valley girl impression? This is stemming from some show I saw on TV the other day where this dude said, “yeah that dyke is probably gonna have a mullet and be wearing a flannel shirt.” Of course my reply was, ” Well dude, you’re probably gonna grab your balls to make sure they didn’t fall off in the middle of the night and break some chic’s heart along the way.” Yell  As I sat there laughing at the little jokester I thought I was, I realized something. I had just became just as judgemental and profiling as this show had been. Why would I do that in retaliation to something gay people have endured forever? I knew that I was trying to be funny, but I also said it out of anger for the comment made on the show. At that moment I made a decision for myself. Obviously I will still continue with humorous quips, but I will make every effort to refrain from making those typical “straight” comments out of anger. We all, gay people that is, want freedom of life. Freedom to just be and to co-exist peacefully. I will do my part now to add to that peace.

Gays Ruin the World: I Suppose We Did This Too!

What in the world is this thing? We reported on a mystery creature that washed up along the East Coast last summer.

People started calling the hideous creature the” Montauk Monster”, and now it appears the “monster” is back!

Check out the video of the creature that apparently washed up on shore in Southold, NY last week. The creature has a strong resemblance to last summer’s Montauk Monster.
